Lead Portfolio Advisor

About the role

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is seeking a Lead Portfolio Advisor to provide expert guidance on programme design, policy advice, and portfolio management across its West and Central Africa division. Based in Abidjan, the role supports the Regional Director and Country Directors in delivering high‑quality, results‑oriented investments.

Key responsibilities

• Provide operational policy advice and develop corporate processes to improve IFAD‑funded operations.
• Advise on country programme design and implementation, ensuring alignment with IFAD’s strategic objectives.
• Lead knowledge‑management initiatives and capacity‑building activities for staff and partners.
• Monitor results, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with IFAD’s portfolio guidelines.
• Perform managerial functions, including acting as Officer‑In‑Charge for the division when required.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Rural Development, Finance, Economics, Public Policy or a related field.
• At least ten years of progressively responsible professional experience in development finance, portfolio management, or related areas.
• Demonstrated ability to work with governments, private sector, and multilateral partners.
