Project Coordinator – Adaptation Fund (Level A)

About the role

The Adaptation Fund Project Coordinator will lead the implementation of climate‑adaptation activities in the coastal region, ensuring alignment with the project work plan and the objectives of the Abidjan Convention. This senior‑level position reports to the UNEP Secretariat and works closely with regional partners and UN agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate implementation of the Adaptation Fund project according to the work plan and objectives.
• Organise and deliver a regional workshop on coastal climate adaptation, including concept note, agenda, technical materials and final report.
• Oversee development and operation of a digital knowledge platform for regional knowledge exchange on coastal resilience.
• Prepare and disseminate regional knowledge products documenting lessons learned, best practices and case studies.
• Ensure effective project monitoring and reporting, producing periodic progress reports for the Adaptation Fund, the Abidjan Convention Secretariat and UNEP systems.
• Support coordination of regional marine and coastal resilience initiatives aligned with the Abidjan Convention priorities.
• Strengthen partnerships with UN agencies, regional organisations, fisheries bodies, research institutions and development partners.
• Prepare technical and strategic documentation such as project proposals, policy briefs, implementation guidance and communication materials.
• Facilitate regional consultations and policy dialogues with stakeholders and decision‑makers.

Required profile

• Proven experience in coordinating international environmental projects, preferably within the Adaptation Fund or similar climate finance mechanisms.
• Strong knowledge of coastal climate adaptation, marine resilience and the Abidjan Convention framework.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multi‑stakeholder partnerships and to mobilise resources.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; ability to produce technical reports and policy briefs.
• Experience in organising workshops, webinars and regional consultations.
