Field Research Consultant – Maternal & Newborn Health

About the role

Medipeace is seeking a senior‑level Field Research Consultant to support the development of a KOICA‑funded project that will strengthen emergency obstetric and newborn care in the San Pedro region of Côte d’Ivoire. The consultant will conduct rapid field assessments, gather contextual data, and build relationships with key health stakeholders to inform a competitive project proposal.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out field assessments and information‑gathering activities following Medipeace’s research framework.
• Engage with government ministries, health authorities, hospitals, NGOs and development partners to collect relevant data.
• Identify emerging issues, information gaps and potential opportunities for project design.
• Conduct stakeholder interviews, focus groups and site visits to evaluate local needs and implementation feasibility.
• Establish and maintain professional networks with local actors for future project implementation.
• Provide technical recommendations and contextual insights to shape a feasible, evidence‑based proposal.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in public health, epidemiology, health systems or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience conducting field research in low‑resource settings, preferably in maternal and newborn health.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and navigate complex stakeholder environments.
• Fluency in English; French proficiency is an asset.
