Head of People Safeguarding and Inclusion

About the role

The Head of People Safeguarding and Inclusion leads the strategic direction and organisational assurance for safeguarding, inclusion and protection across MSF West and Central Africa. Reporting to the Deputy General Director, the role ensures that robust systems, risk management and reporting mechanisms are in place to protect staff, patients and communities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the MSF WaCA safeguarding strategy, set objectives, milestones and key results, and integrate them into recruitment, emergency response and programme design.
• Oversee safeguarding case management, investigations and governance, ensuring confidentiality, fairness and protection from retaliation.
• Lead the inclusion, diversity, equity and people‑voice agenda, advising leadership on barriers and embedding DEI indicators into HR processes.
• Provide safeguarding expertise to operations, support risk identification in field missions and ensure standards are applied in emergency contexts.
• Coordinate staff protection, psychosocial support and wellbeing programmes in partnership with HR and medical functions.
• Ensure data protection and confidentiality of safeguarding information and maintain dashboards for board reporting.

Required profile

• University degree in Law, Psychology, Social Sciences, International Development, Risk Management, Human Resources, Protection or a related field.
• Specialised training or certification in safeguarding, PSEA, protection, investigations or a related discipline.
• Deep understanding of international safeguarding principles and standards, and experience in risk management and compliance.
• Ability to provide strategic advice to senior leadership and to work independently as an expert source of guidance.
