Senior Associate, Survey Designer

About the role

The Rainforest Alliance is seeking a Senior Associate, Survey Designer to lead the design, digital programming, and quality assurance of survey instruments used for programme monitoring, baseline and endline studies, and farmer‑level data collection in Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana. You will translate research questions into field‑ready questionnaires, maintain them, and support the field teams that deploy them. The role reports to the Senior Manager, Performance, Verification & Impact.

Key responsibilities

• Translate research questions, indicators and MEL frameworks into robust survey instruments, including skip logic, constraints and multilingual labels.
• Build and maintain surveys in XLSForm and deploy them on ODK‑based platforms (e.g., KoboToolbox, SurveyCTO) for offline Android collection.
• Implement data quality controls, monitor incoming data, and resolve issues through back‑checks, spot checks and field audits.
• Develop enumerator manuals, deliver training, certify data agents and provide day‑to‑day support during data collection.

Required profile

• Degree in statistics, economics, social sciences, agriculture, data science or related field.
• 3–5 years experience designing and programming household or farmer surveys.
• Proven experience authoring XLSForm instruments and deploying them via ODK, KoboToolbox or SurveyCTO.
• Hands‑on experience with survey methodology, sampling, questionnaire wording and pre‑testing.
• Ability to troubleshoot digital data collection in low‑connectivity environments and run high‑frequency data quality checks.
• Professional proficiency in French and English and willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.
