Health, Safety & Superintendent

About the role

The Health & Safety Superintendent reports to the HSE Manager and is responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring health and safety policies across SML’s mining operations. The role ensures compliance with legislation, drives continuous improvement and supports all heads of departments.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain occupational health and safety strategies, systems and procedures consistent across all sites.
• Lead accident investigations, root‑cause analysis and corrective‑action implementation.
• Coordinate emergency response, mine rescues, firefighting and first‑aid teams.
• Conduct regular inspections, audits and risk assessments to ensure statutory compliance.
• Prepare and present safety performance reports, KPI dashboards and incident reports to senior management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or engineering diploma in Mining, Mechanical or related field.
• Professional HSE or OHS certification.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience, at least 5 years in mining.
• Fluent in French and English.
• Proven ability to coach operational leaders and influence safety culture.
