Regional Mental Health & Psychosocial Support Advisor – West & Central Africa

About the role

The Regional Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Advisor will be based in Abidjan and will support Médecins Sans Frontières projects across West and Central Africa. The role focuses on delivering technical guidance, supervision and rapid assessments to ensure high‑quality mental health interventions in humanitarian settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support and supervision to MHPSS staff in designated MSF projects in West and Central Africa.
• Conduct project visits for coaching, training and quality assurance.
• Collaborate with project teams to develop strategies aligned with MSF standards and priorities.
• Support rapid mental health assessments in emergencies and contribute to response planning.
• Integrate MHPSS into broader health and humanitarian strategies together with medical and operational teams.
• Contribute to advocacy and lobbying efforts to promote mental health priorities within regional platforms.
• Develop and disseminate context‑specific tools, guidelines, best‑practice examples and training materials.
• Facilitate knowledge transfer through virtual meet‑ups, webinars and online presentations.
• Monitor and evaluate the impact and quality of MHPSS interventions.
• Represent MHPSS in regional coordination forums and technical working groups.
• Supervise data collection and implementation of monitoring tools for MHPSS activities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in psychology, social work or a medical doctor degree with a specialization in mental health.
• Relevant professional experience in mental health and psychosocial support within humanitarian contexts.
• Experience conducting rapid mental health assessments and integrating MHPSS into health programmes.
• Ability to work collaboratively with medical, operational and advocacy teams.
