Regional Regulatory Affairs & Compliance Specialist (West Africa)

About the role

Optasia is seeking a Regional Regulatory Affairs & Compliance Specialist to support its fintech platform across West Africa. The role serves as the first line of defense, helping the company navigate regulatory changes, manage risk, and foster a culture of ethics and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the primary contact with regulators to anticipate and mitigate the impact of new regulations, reporting obligations, and prudential guidelines.
• Lead horizon‑scanning activities to identify upcoming regulatory changes and disseminate early‑warning signals to relevant internal teams.
• Support the Head of Regulatory Affairs & Compliance and Regional Compliance Managers in executing the broader regulatory strategy.
• Monitor and interpret laws and regulations governing fintech and micro‑finance operations in the region.
• Conduct structured assessments of regulatory compliance, evaluate risk exposure, and recommend mitigation actions.
• Implement and maintain a robust compliance governance framework, including training and awareness programs for employees.
• Develop internal marketing materials, training programs, and presentations to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements.
• Perform general administrative duties related to regulatory reporting and documentation.

Required profile

• Enthusiastic professional with a results‑driven, can‑do attitude.
• Experience in regulatory affairs or compliance within the financial services or fintech sector.
• Strong understanding of laws, regulations, and prudential guidelines affecting micro‑finance operations.
• Ability to engage effectively with regulators and internal stakeholders.
• Analytical mindset with experience conducting risk assessments and compliance reviews.
• Excellent communication skills for training, awareness, and documentation purposes.
