Senior Climate Screening / E&S Safeguards Expert

About the role

NTU International is seeking a Senior Climate Screening / E&S Safeguards Expert to support the EU‑funded Technical Assistance to ECOWAS in Transport Governance project. The role will focus on climate risk screening, environmental and social safeguards, and resilience mainstreaming for transport infrastructure across the ECOWAS region.

Key responsibilities

• Support climate screening and resilience assessments for regional transport projects and corridors.
• Provide technical expertise on environmental and social safeguards in line with EU and international standards.
• Conduct and review ESIA, ESMP, climate risk analyses, and resilience studies.
• Integrate climate adaptation, gender equality, disability inclusion, and social safeguards into project preparation and implementation.
• Prepare and review safeguard documentation, resettlement frameworks, and stakeholder engagement plans.
• Advise ECOWAS institutions and national stakeholders on safeguard compliance and sustainability frameworks.
• Develop safeguard procedures, methodologies, and technical guidance.
• Deliver capacity‑building workshops and technical training on climate screening and E&S safeguards.
• Support monitoring, reporting, and quality assurance of safeguard‑related activities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in environmental sciences, engineering, climate change, sustainability, social development, natural resource management or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in environmental and social safeguards, climate resilience, or sustainable infrastructure development.
• At least 7 years of experience in climate screening, environmental and social impact assessments, or related work.
• Proven experience on infrastructure or transport sector projects in developing countries, preferably in Sub‑Saharan Africa.
• Experience with international development cooperation and donor‑funded programmes.
