Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to provide comprehensive legal support for a mining operation in Mali. The role involves advising on commercial contracts, government affairs, dispute resolution, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements such as mining services, procurement, exploration, employment and joint‑venture contracts.
• Ensure contracts comply with local legislation, OHADA regulations and company policies.
• Provide legal advice to operational and corporate teams on contractual obligations and risks.
• Engage with government authorities, regulators and industry bodies, preparing legal documents and position papers.
• Manage litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution matters, coordinating external counsel across jurisdictions.
• Oversee corporate governance duties, including filings, board resolutions and shareholder matters.
• Advise on mining legislation, environmental regulations, licensing and permitting across West Africa.
• Prepare legal risk assessments, reports on litigation, regulatory developments and compliance for senior leadership.

Required profile

• Qualifying law degree from an OHADA member state.
• Master’s degree in law (preferred).
• Significant experience as a senior legal counsel, preferably within the mining sector.
• Strong knowledge of OHADA uniform acts, local corporate law and mining regulatory frameworks.
