Category Manager – Direct Production Services

About the role

The Category Manager – Direct Production Services develops and executes category strategies for key mining contracts and services that directly support production, including load & haul, drilling, blasting, road construction, maintenance services and related mine-site contracts. The role works closely with operations, engineering and site stakeholders to deliver optimal contract and procurement outcomes while ensuring cost optimisation, supplier performance and compliance with safety and ESG standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement category strategies for production-related mining services, driving cost efficiency and value creation.
• Build and manage relationships with contractors and service providers, ensuring service delivery meets performance, safety and ESG requirements.
• Conduct market research on supplier capabilities, risks and trends, identify cost drivers and mitigate risks such as service delays and capacity constraints.
• Define and monitor KPIs such as productivity rates, contract adherence, service uptime and safety compliance, and report category performance.
• Ensure adherence to procurement governance, policies and ethical sourcing standards, and support transparent contract management and audits.
• Partner with site operations, finance and HSE, and provide commercial support for operational decisions.
• Drive continuous improvement in contract structures and service delivery, and support efficiency, technology and ESG initiatives.
• Commit to safety and ESG practices, ensure team members are fit for work and follow company procedures and reporting requirements.

Required profile

• Minimum 7+ years of experience in category management, procurement or supply chain management, with expertise in underground mining services.
• Proven track record in supplier negotiations, contract management and delivering cost savings.
• Experience in market analysis, risk mitigation and implementing category strategies.
• Leadership experience in a management team, with strong communication, negotiation, mentoring and project management skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ESG principles in procurement.
